Sharpening the Focus

I have a lot of projects going right now. Review sites, directories, comparison tools, a travel project with my wife. It's a lot, and lately I've been thinking hard about what that's actually doing to the work.

Multitasking feels productive. You're always moving, always switching between something that needs fixing, publishing, answering. But feeling busy and actually making progress on the thing that matters most are two different things, and I think I'd been confusing them.

The one I've been neglecting

I have to admit it: thatmarketingbuddy.com, my biggest project, hasn't been as good as it could be. It was working, growing even, but it never had a sharp answer to a simple question: who exactly is this website for? Without that, everything from the content to the offer ends up a little generic.

Best in the world at one thing

So I've been narrowing that down. Instead of trying to be broadly useful to anyone interested in marketing software, I want to know exactly who thatmarketingbuddy.com is for, and be the best in the world at serving that one specific ICP. Sharper audience, sharper goals, sharper everything downstream of it.

And since it's my biggest project, it should get the majority of my time and focus, not an equal split with everything else. That's the part I've been getting wrong.

I'm not dropping the other projects. They keep running as side projects, smaller in scope, whether that's some MRR, one-time payments, or commissions coming in on the side. They just don't get to compete for the same attention anymore.

I don't know exactly what the results will look like yet. But I believe knowing exactly who I'm building for, and giving that one project the bulk of my time, gives better odds than spreading the same energy evenly across everything. Hoping this gives the results I think it can.
