Small Tasks, Big Plan
I have a plan for passive income. It's not complicated and it doesn't need to be. Build useful directories and tools, rank them on Google, show up in AI search, stack a few of those together. That's the whole thing.
What I didn't fully appreciate a year ago is how much of this comes down to small daily tasks. Not big moves. Not one magic launch. Just small things, done every day, that compound into something real.
Consistency compounds
Most days the work doesn't feel like much. A page here, a few new tools there, some cleanup, a link, a post. Nothing that looks like progress in isolation. But I keep showing up and doing it anyway, because that's the only thing I know actually works.
Trends come and go. Tactics stop working. Algorithms change. Consistency doesn't go out of style. You keep publishing, keep improving, keep shipping. Eventually the numbers start moving, and it looks like nothing right up until it looks like something.
I'm starting to see that shift now. Impressions climbing. Clicks coming in. Real users finding real pages. The numbers are still small, but they're moving in the right direction, and that's all I need to know I'm on the right track.
Google and AI search are both working
A year ago, AI search was theoretical. Today it's live. I'm seeing referrals from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity in my analytics. Someone asks Claude for a free CRM with unlimited contacts and lands on a freestack.tools page. That's the future I was building for, and it's already here.
Google is still the bigger channel. AI search is growing faster than I expected. I'm leaning into both.
The proof of concept is done
The formula works. Build something genuinely useful, structure it for search, publish consistently, rank, get traffic, monetize. None of that is new. What's new is that I can actually see it happening on my own sites now.
Which means the hard part is over. The uncertain part. The part where you wonder if any of this will ever work. That question is answered. It works.
Now I'm doubling the speed
The plan doesn't change from here. The pace does. More pages per day. More tools per directory. More content. More internal links. More backlinks. More of the stuff that's already working, just faster.
No pivots. No rebrands. No genius new angle. Just more of what already works, done consistently, for longer than most people are willing to stick with it. That's the entire edge.
A year from now the numbers will be bigger. Two years from now they'll look obvious. The only thing standing between here and there is whether I keep showing up. And I will.
